Sweets Make Me ☻

Just thought I'd add some pics of a small sweet bag/ holder (?) I created after reading an Origami For Beginners  book after finding some spare pieces of card. I have also included a quick tutorial on how to make your own if anyone is interested...

Cube of Consumerism

Christmas is finally over and you'd like to think so was the mad rush of blatant consumerism and plugging for products etc. I must admit I was foolish enough to believe this. Then I went out. The 'XMAS SALE' signs were merely replaced with 'NEW YEAR DEALS' and 'JANUARY SALES, DON'T MISS OUT'. Shit. Here's me thinking I could spend a day in a city centre without being subconsciously brainwashed. If I get an unexplainable urge to buy a 'Strapless WonderBra' or a pair of Ugg  boots don't blame me...

The cube represents the environment we are stuck in. No way out, always a ceiling. Buy it now and if you don't you will eventually anyway. No wonder we're in a recession.

Merry Christmas!

Can't believe I'm saying this already but... It's Christmaaaaaaasssss, as a scruffy old drunk once sung. Quick doodle for everyone to wish them a very merry Christmas and a Great New Year! Hope you get what you wanted :)

Big Wooden Blocks Font

So today I created my first ever font, Big Wooden Blocks. This was inspired by the big chunky wooden letters used on my Art course to print with. Took ages and I'm not sure if you can even download it; I tried before and it failed ¬¬. Being my first try, it's nothing ground breaking but still worth a mention. You can have a little mess around with it and type something in to try it out by clicking on the menu on the image above.

Possibly the first of many?

Definitive Danglings

After creating the mind map, shown in the post below, I decided to experiment further with the design and see if I could perhaps implement it as a CD cover. Therefore, I created this design on Photoshop and made 4 variations of it (top being the first design, bottom being the newest). At the minute I'm thinking of going with the last one, but I keep changing my mind! Which one should I go for?

Utopia Typography - Factory based Paradise

This is an illustration drawn just today with pen and ink. I'm not quite sure how I'm going to incorporate it yet but I'm sure I'll come up with something...

The top image is the original, the bottom being edited with colour through Photoshop.

Poster Design #1

Finally, here's my original design I made as an A2 sized poster for my Brave New World project. It's a little empty here, but that's just so I can add more things once I enlarge it. I've already notched up a few in fact, hopefully post them if I can figure out how scan an A2 sheet!

Brave New Doodlings

If anyone's interested, here's a sheet full of doodles I made with pen and ink last week. It contains random text about the book and some custom newspaper style ads I made up. I plan to incorporate these into my latest design, which I shall post once complete.

Paradise?

___

Here's two quick designs I pulled together on Photoshop. Basically, I write some phrases relevant to the book Brave New World and used it as the background to the letters. The first design is the original piece, with the second being influenced by an earlier illustration (which I hope to post later this week). The two designs are supposed to imitate a welcome message, as if entering a new town (in this case Utopia/ Paradise).

Early thoughts

These are my first ever two designs as part of...

Brave New World CD Cover Design #1

This is my first design for my new project Brave New World. It shows 3 images, all depicting the new way of living and the resulting restrictions in lifestyle.

The Injection

Knocked this up on Photoshop just before. It shows the title Brave New World with a syringe injecting a mysterious blue liquid into its insides. The liquid can be portrayed as many things, all of which are suitable. Is it control? Fear? Power? Authority? Torture? It could be none of these things, it could be all...

Ladder to Nowhere

This is the first image in my 'Brave New World' mini series. For those familiar with the
book, you will know that it entales a socety devoid of sadness and defiance. Everyone
is born happy and brainwashed into working without hesitation or question.

Life truly is a routine and for them, the ladders no longer lead to another place. A
manufactured society. How ridiculous. How far-fetched.
Or is it?

Lego Lego Lego

This comes from a workshop we had in college in September. We were asked to bring a small object in that could be plaster cast and be suitable to be included in a repetition piece. I decided to bring a Lego brick in (no, I don't have a real, deep and meaningful reason as to why I picked it, I just thought it would look good). After making around 40 plaster bricks, I took a selection and set up a composition. I then drew what I saw with a stick and ink...

EDIT: Added an alternate version including a single red brick. I find the inclusion of red very powerful, even when used as little as above...

Winter Wheel of Wonderment

As part of my new brief, Brave New World, a few of us were required to venture into the city. As the nights are rolling in quicker than ever it was soon dark and very very cold. We had heard about the huge wheel that had been erected in Liverpool One and decided to investigate. It truly was magical; the size, the lights and the aura it emitted was unbelievable, it's just a pity it has to go...
